Artistic Philosophy

Jay is an artist driven by the enigmatic relationship between artifacts and the narratives we weave. His fascination lies in the dichotomy between our true desires, portrayed by the objects we cherish, and the narratives we craft to present ourselves to the world. Jay leans into this space, often focusing solely on artifacts to reveal truths that transcend the biases of personal narratives.

Through a unique blend of detailed close-ups and expansive perspectives, Jay’s photography seeks the unseen. In one frame, he brings attention to details, presenting a microscopic view that suggests significance within the mundane; in another frame he captures expansive perspective that can simultaneously feel confining. At times, his compositions frame juxtapositions that go unnoticed in the broader context, prompting viewers to explore the dissonance between the value placed on things and their actual insignificance in the grand scheme.

Jay's journey in photography is a testament to impermanence and evolution, mirroring his belief that life's seasons guide the emotional depth of his art. His classical training as a black and white halide photographer grants him the vantage point to reduce the noise of life's polychromatic chaos into its elements, a process that might point the direction toward truth.
